“German Panzers of World War II: The World's Great Weapons”, by Chris Bishop, illustrated by Jorge Rosado

384 pages, Metro Books, ISBN-13: 978-1435148536

After reviewing Panzer: A Pictorial Documentation of the German Battle Tanks of World War II by Horst Scheibert on October 9th, 2021, I would have thought that I had found the end-all-be-all resource on German Armor. And that is mostly true, but that doesn’t mean that there aren’t other books about Panzers out there that are as informative. Like this one, for instance: German Panzers of World War II: The World's Great Weapons by Chris Bishop but illustrated by Jorge Rosado. This book is as comprehensive a study of German armor in World War II as was the aforementioned Panzer; unlike that book, however, there are few photos in this book but hundreds of original pieces of art that show each tank and armored vehicle with as much detail as any photograph ever could. Be advised, however, as German Panzers doesn’t really go into the order of battle of the Panzer divisions during the War; it does, however, summarize all of the main campaigns and battles that involved the German Panzer divisions: Africa, France, Italy, Russia and, finally, Germany. While Panzer was more concerned with the tanks themselves, German Panzers broadens its approach and includes army and corps organizations, but the divisions themselves are not broken down. A great resource of the principle land battle weapon of the 20th Century, and a must-have addition to fans of the Panzer.
